April is Poetry Month. Is poetry a hard thing for you to grasp? Poets.org may help.
It has poems for every occasion. Poets.org currently features biographies of more than 1,000 poets and more than 5,000 poems. You may be able to find something to suit every occasion. There are all kinds of poetry collection from time-honored to modern. It's a great-looking site too.
So the next time someone dares to ask “Does anyone read poetry anymore?” the Academy of American Poets, who manages this website, can confidently say yes.
They proudly boast, "Last week the organization gained its 100,000th subscriber to its Poem-a-Day series, which publishes—online via email and its website Poets.org—new, never-before-seen poems by contemporary poets on weekdays, and a curated selection of classic poems on weekends."
This site has several wonderful components.
The poetry near you section allows you to click the states menu and select your state to find festivals, conferences, writing programs, literary organizations, landmarks, poetry-friendly bookstores, and more in your own area.
The poems for any occasion section of the site has an extensive library. Guest to the site may filter a search by occasion & theme or form; search by title or first line; or browse the list of thousands of poems.
Through Poem-a-Day section, they present original, previously unpublished poems by our country’s most talented poets throughout the week and classic poems on the weekends. This resource should have you become less intimidated by poetry. Go have a look.
